Campaigners hold meeting against future development plans

Save Warsash and Western Wards organised last night’s meeting to tell people about their struggle against future development.

As reported in The News, three separate planning applications for 405 houses in Brook Lane, Warsash have been given the go-ahead by Fareham Borough Council despite protests, petitions and deputations from the community.There are two more applications in the pipeline yet to be decided for the area.Rob Megginson, from the group, said the meeting at Victory Hall was to let people know what was going on and to try and get extra support.‘This is about informing the residents, seeking their help and answering their questions,’ he said.‘We don’t feel like enough people know about what could be happening on their doorstep and we wanted to change that.‘Having spoken to people since the council agreed the three applications on January 24, some people weren’t aware so, whether they are for or against we feel they should be informed.’Charlee Bennett, from the Hampshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, attended the meeting and gave advice as to what the residents could do.This included working with the council on the design aspects of the three applications already approved, so they are in keeping with Warsash’s character, and working with other campaign groups across Fareham to fight all developments together.Residents welcomed the meeting and the work by Save Warsash and Western Wards. One said: ‘I want to thank the group for explaining all this to us,’ while another added: ‘I have learnt more from this meeting than any council meeting.’
