Portsmouth Christmas market named one of best in UK

The Dickens Christmas Festival at the Historic Dockyard was singled out as a must visit market by The Independent.Â
Previously known as the Festival of Christmas, the market will be held between Friday, November 30 and Sunday, December 2, in Portsmouth.Â

Hide AdIt will celebrate all things Dickens - in the city where the famous Victorian author was born.Â
The Dickens Christmas Festival will have authentic decorations and snow-covered cobbles, as well as more than 100 Christmas stalls - selling artisan bakes and cakes, vintage clothes and homemade crafts, among other things.Â
There will be a Curiosity Shop, Fagin's Tavern and Father Christmas dressed in green and once you've worked up a thirst you can enjoy a tipple in the Gin & Prosecco Parlour.Â
The Dickens Christmas Festival was picked as one of the eight best festive market '“ alongside ones in Bath and York '“ by The Independent's Joanna Whitehead.Â

When is the Dickens Christmas Festival?Â
The festive market will take place at the Historic Dockyard between November 30 and December 2.Â
The market will be open between 10am and 6pm on each of the three days.Â

Hide AdCharles Dickens was born on what is now Commercial Road on February 7, 1812.Â
His father was a clerk in the Navy Pay Office and was stationed in the area.Â
The Dickens family moved back to London in January 1815.Â
Do I need tickets?Â
If you want to attend the Dickens Christmas Festival at the Historic Dockyard you will need tickets.Â
The event is not included in a full navy ticket and needs to be bought separately.Â
Early bird tickets are on sale now but you need to get them before October 31.Â
