Christian Burgess saluted the Fratton faithful for their support after he gave away a late penalty which earned Wycombe Wanderers a draw against Pompey.

The centre-back brought down Fred Onyedinma in the 88th minute, with Joe Jacobson slotting the spot-kick home to clinch the Chairboys a 2-2 draw at Fratton Park.

It was the second error Burgess made in three matches. His mistimed header led to Greg Docherty's goal in the Blues' 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury two weeks ago.

Nevertheless, Pompey fans have rallied behind the former Petersborough defender following the clash with Wycombe.

And Burgess thanked them for their backing.

He wrote on Twitter: '˜When it rains it pours. Got to have broad shoulders in this game. Thanks for the messages - we keep going #pma #pup.'

Pompey fell off top spot following the draw against Wanderers.

Gareth Evans cancelled out Bryn Morris' opener while Brett Pitman thought he'd nicked Pompey a victory in the 86th minute before Jacobson's penalty.
