The League One promotion race took another twist this evening as Fleetwood moved back into the play-off places.

The Cod Army delivered a 1-0 victory over Ipswich, who continue to be in free fall.

Substitute Ched Evans notched the only goal of the game on 40 minutes as Joey Barton's side leapfrogged Oxford to go sixth.

Fleetwood moved onto 58 points and are just one point and three places behind Pompey in the table ahead of their meeting at Fratton Park a week today.

Firstly, the Blues travel to Peterborough on Saturday while the Cod Army are in Fylde coast derby action against Blackpool.

Ipswich’s chances of going up now look slim. After setting the pace in the formative stages of the campaign, they’re ninth on 52 points – but have played two more games than Kenny Jackett’s side.

The Blues travel to Portman Road on Saturday, March 21.
