Mingi was handed his first league start by Danny Cowley against Forest Green, and repaid his manager’s faith by delivering an outstanding showing in the 1-0 success.

The former Charlton and West Ham was the driving force for his side in the middle of the park, as he continuously broke up Forest Green attacks and then powered forward with the ball.

Mingi was watched by his proud father on his big day, but explained there won’t be extravagant celebrations this evening.

He said: ‘I’m going to sleep!

‘I’ll celebrate on the coach with the lads and that’ll be enough for me.

‘My dad was here for it.

‘He came down for my birthday and was here to support me.

‘It was special feeling to see where I’ve come from, so to make my first start in the league was a proud moment - a great feeling.

‘We haven’t won in a while, so to get a win on my birthday was a special day.’

Inevitably Mingi faded after the break after producing arguably the most dynamic individual displays seen of any Pompey player this season.

Michael Morrison replaced the Londoner with eight minutes left amid a reshuffle which saw Connor Ogilvie go into midfield.

Mingi admitted there was some fatigue at play after being restricted to Papa John’s Trophy and Carabao Cup starts.

He added: ‘It was a first league start so I’m not surprised I felt a little tired.

‘I’ve started cup games but not had a consistent run.

‘So maybe it was expected to happen, but overall I was pleased.’
