Danny Cowley is ‘excited’ by the prospect of the upcoming January transfer window.

And in a direct message to fans, the Pompey boss said he’ll be doing his utmost to ensure the Fratton faithful are happy at the end of it.

The Blues manager has been receiving some flak from sections of supporters in recent weeks as they’ve seen their club’s promotion push falter.

Going into today’s game against MK Dons, Cowley’s side sit eighth in the table, albeit with games in hand, and with just one win in 10 league outings.

With the January window just around the corner, there’s a hope that Pompey’s business will kick-start a memorable second half of the season and one that will eventually lead to a return to the Championship.

He’s never going to reveal everything he’s got up his sleeve.

However, when asked what words of encouragement he has for the fans ahead of a crucial stage in the season, Cowley admitted he was excited by what the possibilities that lie in wait.

‘I think we’re in a position where we’re just on the edge of the play-offs, we’ve got three games in hand and still in two cup competitions,’ said the head coach.

‘We’re looking forward to the fixtures over the Christmas period.

‘Absolutely, we’d love to start picking up some wins in the league and, yeah, the January window is always exciting for football supporters.

‘I’m a football supporter myself, I understand this, and our ambition in every window is to leave the window better than what we came into it.

‘Ultimately, when you live English football, there are only two periods a year when you can recruit.

‘We know the easiest and quickest way to improve your team is through recruitment. It’s not the only way as coaching and maximising the players you have in your squad is a big part of that as well.

‘But, yeah, we’re really excited for the window to unfold and we will do our best to keep improving.’

Cowley added that the fans can trust him to deliver when it comes to freshening up his options.

He admitted no-one puts more pressure on him to succeed than himself.

The Pompey boss continued: ‘I’m in a really privileged position as I’m in a job that means so much to so many people – and I live that responsibility every single second of every minute of every day.

‘Ultimately, nobody can put more pressure on me than I do myself.

‘That’s how I live my life and as a consequence, that allows me to perform at my best.

‘I see the pressure as a privilege.’
