Ross McCrorie was given a ‘shock to the system’ after testing positive for coronavirus.

The on-loan Rangers man was one of five Pompey players who contracted Covid-19 last month – along with James Bolton, Andy Cannon, Haji Mnoga and Sean Raggett.

The Blues were sent home from training on Friday, March 14, after Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had tested positive for the virus following their 2-0 FA Cup win at Fratton Park the previous week.

McCrorie followed government guidelines and went into self-isolation for seven days, while his twin brother and fellow Ger, Robby, had to self-isolate for two weeks having returned to across the border.

The Scotland under-21s skipper is unsure how he caught the virus.

But having suffered no symptoms, he's now fully recovered.

McCrorie said: ‘I’m fine and had absolutely no symptoms, so the whole time I felt normal.

‘It was just a shock to the system for the physio to phone and say that my test came back positive.

‘I’ve felt fine this whole time. Anyone can get it but people can get affected all different ways.

‘Luckily for me, I wasn’t affected at all but there are a lot of people who you see on the news who can get really bad side effects and it can take people’s lives.

‘I was lucky. That was the good thing about Pompey getting us all tested, especially after the Arsenal game with Arteta testing positive.

‘I could have been staying down with my mum or came in contact with elderly people, so it was quite positive I managed to stay away from people, although I was pretty scared that the people I’d been near had contracted it.

‘I've not got a clue where it came. After we got sent home from training, I went back up the road a few days later and got my test result.

‘I drove back up to Scotland so I didn’t go near people, which was quite good.

‘I had to self-isolate for a week but my brother and his girlfriend who I’m with had to self-isolate for 14 days.

‘We couldn't go out but got food orders. We had plenty in any way but once my seven days were up then I could go to the shop.’
