The fifth-placed Blues have already recruited four players this month to bolster their promotion ambition. While squad numbers are currently at the maximum of 22 senior players. As it stands, Kenny Jackett is satisfied with the squad he has assembled and positions covered. And it is not anticipated there will be any additional signings ahead of today’s 11pm deadline. Lewis Ward’s arrival on loan from Exeter on Thursday appears to be the fourth and final recruit of January. He joins loanees Harvey White and George Byers, while Charlie Daniels has been snapped up as a free agent from Shrewsbury. They have balanced a squad which has seen Cam Pring recalled by Bristol City halfway through his season-long loan. In addition, Reeco Hackett-Fairchild (Southend) and Bryn Morris (Northampton) have moved on loan for the remainder of the season. Of the 22-man squad, just Alex Bass and Paul Downing are on the treatment table. Ward’s arrival provides goalkeeping cover for Bass, while Rasmus Nicolaisen and the versatile James Bolton are challenging Jack Whatmough and Sean Raggett for the centre-half positions.
