Roads around Portsmouth are being gritted

MAIN roads around Portsmouth have been gritted ahead of frosty temperatures expected over the weekend.

Portsmouth City Council’s contractor Colas has gritted the M275 and is gritting the city’s priority roads.

Councillor Ken Ellcome, cabinet member for transport, said: ‘We’re expecting a few days of very cold weather so are preparing for this by following our winter maintenance plan and starting to grit the roads.

‘I’d urge drivers to take these conditions into account and drive safely.’

The winter maintenance plan has been implemented following a cold weather warning from the Met Office.

The warning is expected to last until Tuesday.
